The mountain hut is located at the end of the Aragües-Jasa valley, in the Valles Occidentales Natural Park, on a plateau called the Llano de Lizara and beneath the towering Bisaurin peak. Because it can be reached by vehicle and its surroundings are truly magnificent, this mountain hut is a wonderful base from which to practice a variety of different mountain sports. Advocating and implementing an environmentally friendly management model, the Lizara mountain hut was awarded ISO 14001 certification in October 2004.
The Valles Occidentales Natural Park, which is where the mountain hut is located, was designated a natural park in 2006 and is an area with both high and medium-high mountains. In winter, a long-distance piste is set up on the Lizara plateau, which is managed directly by the mountain hut itself. The ISO 14001 certification was a pioneering experience in Spain and the Pyrenees for mountain huts. This certification ensures an environmental management model with the installation of renewable energy sources, the practice of separate waste collection and environmental awareness campaigns.
